KRA announces data clean up exercise on all registered taxpayers

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a notice to all taxpayers on the data clean-up exercise.

In a notice on Monday, June 24, 2024, the taxman indicated that the exercise will focus on taxpayers’ Personal Identification Number (PIN) registration details.

KRA detailed that the exercise aims at ensuring the integrity of the taxpayers’ register to enhance service delivery to all taxpayers.

“Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), would like to notify all registered taxpayers of the ongoing data clean up exercise of taxpayers’ Personal Identification Number (PIN) registration details. The exercise is aimed at ensuring the integrity of the taxpayers’ register with a view to enhance service delivery to all taxpayers,” the notice read in part.

What will happen during this exercise?

To enable them to conduct the data clean-up exercise, KRA informed all the registered taxpayers that it has rolled out a One Time Password (OTP) which will enable them to update their contacts in the iTax system.

The system will display the mobile number registered in iTax through which an OTP will be sent to validate contact details.

Where the number is incorrect, taxpayers will be required to capture the correct mobile number through which an OTP will be sent to enable access to the iTax system, KRA explained.

The taxman has since asked the registered taxpayers to comply with the clean-up exercise to enable them to best execute their mandate.

“We urge all registered taxpayers to update/correct their registration details as appropriate, on iTax, including their phone number, physical address, email address, physical location of businesses, residency status, directorships or partnerships held e.t.c,” KRA noted.

Further, KRA asked those who find it difficult to update their contact information as stated above to visit any of their branches or reach out through their official channels.

“We are conducting a data cleanup exercise for all registered taxpayers’ PIN registration details. As part of this exercise, Taxpayers must log in to iTax, verify their registered mobile number, and update any incorrect contact details.

“For further assistance, contact the KRA Contact Centre at 020 4 999 999, 0711 099 999, or email [email protected],” the notice indicated.

However, KRA did not specify how long the exercise will run but insisted that it is key to effective service delivery.
