A truly gruesome scene unfolded in Khon Kaen when a 22 year old drug addict, experienced a severe withdrawal episode, and decapitated his grandfather with a machete, leaving his father in shock upon discovering the horrific scene.

Police were alerted to a frenzied attack at 4pm yesterday, July 3, involving a young man using a machete to behead his grandfather while the older man was seated on a chair in a hut in Ban Meng, Nong Ruea District, Khon Kaen. Officers, along with medical personnel and rescue teams, arrived promptly at the scene.

Police found the 22 year old man holding the severed head of his 88 year old grandfather, who was seated on a plastic chair with deep gashes across his body. The suspect was immediately detained and taken to Nong Ruea Police Station for questioning. According to the father, there had been no prior conflicts between his son and the victim.

The father recounted that the victim had been sitting by the pond in the hut as usual, and his son joined him. Unexpectedly, he heard several unusual thumping sounds and initially thought his son was attacking a dog.

“When I heard the dog barking unusually, I came out to check and was shocked to see my son holding his grandfather’s head. Once I gathered my senses, I told him to place the head near the body. Two days ago, I saw my son using methamphetamine secretly, and since then, he has just been smoking and not eating. I never thought he would do something like this.”

Police Lieutenant Somnieng revealed that the police searched the suspect’s room and found medication for neurological conditions. The suspect had been receiving treatment at Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital in Khon Kaen, with the last treatment recorded in April this year.

However, it was noted that the suspect rarely took his medication, as his guardians were busy selling goods daily. Drug tests conducted on the suspect showed no traces of illegal substances in his system.

The suspect has been charged with premeditated murder and will face legal proceedings in accordance with the law, reported KhaoSod.
