Kevin De Bruyne had a last-ditch miss in a hotly contested FA Cup fourth round tie with Tottenham Hotspur.

The visitors got off to a quick start and when the Belgian playmaker was substituted in the second half, the fans were soon on the edge of their seats at his nerve-wracking miss.

De Bruyne was square in front of the goal and narrowly missed to keep the score at 0-0.

The Belgian took his time and went for the corner, but somehow his shot went wide.

City had another chance ten minutes before the end when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg missed Bernardo Silva’s cross and Alvarez’s shot was smothered on the line by Vicario.

Just when it looked like the force field was holding, Ake grabbed the winner to break Spurs hearts and end the City hoodoo in this corner of north London.

Nathan Ake was the unlikely FA Cup hero as the defender netted an 88th-minute winner to send the holders through to the fifth round.

Tottenham were on the verge of securing an Etihad replay against Pep Guardiola’s side before Aké’s late intervention sealed victory for the visitors.

The target finally City’s ended their Spurs hoodoo after the Dutch defender scored their first ever goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

City had never scored on Spurs’ new pitch and lost all five of their previous games there dating back to 2018, with several misses and plenty of drama attached to their drought, which included more than 100 shots.

They had failed to break the deadlock in the FA Cup fourth round after 17 attempts on Friday evening and it seemed to be becoming a familiar story.
