Lawyer turned activist Morara Kebaso has revealed that Kenyans like complaining too much and doing too little when it comes to advocating for change.

Speaking during a live interview at Milele Radio on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, he said that activism is all about complaining, pushing for policy changes, and creating awareness of the mismanagement of public resources by those in the leadership.

He went on to say that after exposing the corrupt leaders and mismanagement of public funds, little or nothing is done about it.

Ni vizuri wakenya wajue ya kwamba we complain too much and do too little. Kwamba activism is about complaining; it is about saying, hapa pesa zimeibiwa, hapa uwongozi ni mbaya, health care yetu imeharibika, education imeumia, agriculture wakulima hawafaidiki, complain ni sawa but what are you doing about it?” he said.

The outspoken activist further called for unity among young leaders and the formation of a joint party so that they can provide an alternative leadership in the country.

Kwa sababu hao viongiozi ambao wako tayari ni wafisadi lakini hao ndio wako. Are we mentoring young leaders to take over? So sisi kama young leaders tuanze kujiweka pamoja tutengeneze chama tuanze kuonyesha ya kwamba ule uwongozi tunautaka sio ndoto inawezekana na ndio iwezekane lazima sisi wenyewe we start packaging ourselves as an alternative leader ambao watareplace hao wafisadi,” Morara said.

Political ambitions

The Inject Party leader added that activism alone will not provide the solution to many problems the country is facing, adding that he formed the political party so that aspiring young leaders can provide good leadership and governance.

Additionally, Morara said that he would have run as an independent candidate in the next general election if he was the only aspiring young leader.

Kwa hivyo sisi wenyewe tuanze kujipanga kuchukua uwongozi wa taifa, tukifanya activism ama tufanye tu mambo yakuangalia miradi ya serikali ambayo pesa zimeibiwa.

Kenyans reach a point and they get tired wanasema sawa ‘umetuambia shida sasa unataka tufanye nini?’ Hao tunao tunawatoa tuweke nani? Nani amejitokeza anasema yuko tayari kuprovide uwongozi bora? That is why nilitengeneza chama ingekuwa mimi binafsi I would just run as an independent candidate,” Morara stated.

He further revealed that he comes from a political lineage, adding that he is named after veteran political leaders whom he is related to.

Majina yangu yote ni ya wanasiasa, Kebaso was the first Senator of Kisii, Senator George Kebaso, Morara was an MP honourable George Morara the late, so tayari natoka kwa familia ya wanasiasa kwa hivyo siasa nikitu ambacho nipende nisipende iko kwa damu atanikitoroka kitanitafuta,” he revealed.
