Josie Gibson suffered an embarrassing on-air blunder on Tuesday when she joined the This Morning studio live from a Barbie-themed villa in Costa De La Luz.

The presenter, 38, sank into the swimming pool after popping inflatable flamingo during the hilarious segment.

In light of Greta Gerwig’s new Barbie film, which hits cinemas later this week, Josie donned a bright pink dress and flew out to Spain to review the holiday destination.

But things soon descended into chaos when hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary persuaded Josie to jump on to an inflatable in the pool.

‘I feel like Josie’s just gone on a bit of a jolly,’ Alison admitted, while Josie floating in the water.

A huge popping noise was then heard with the presenters bursting out in fits of giggles as Josie started to sink.

‘Omg she’s sinking… get that mic pack out!’ Alison exclaimed.

As Josie disappeared off screen, Dermot laughed: ‘I can still just hear Jodie in my ear piece going, “I’m sinking… I’m sinking… I’m sinking!”‘

It comes following the news that Josie has a ‘natural and caring personality’ and is the perfect replacement for Philip Schofield on This Morning, according to her mum.

The former Big Brother winner supported Holly Willoughby by giving her co-star a hug after the under-fire presenter addressed her fallout with Phillip during a speech.

And now the Bristol-born favourite is being tipped to have a greater role on the scandal-hit series, which has been plagued with reports of a toxic atmosphere behind the scenes.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Josie’s mum Mandy says her daughter is naturally affectionate and caring, leaving viewers in no doubt her support for Holly was wholeheartedly genuine.

And she says her ‘values’ were formed by her traveller roots, where she would spend eight weeks every summer passing through the countryside in a horse-drawn caravan.

Mandy explained: ‘That’s where she got her values from – it taught her to respect and care for people.

‘When you saw her give Holly Willoughby a hug on TV that was genuine, from the heart.’

‘It’s very different to the life she leads now but I’m glad that she had the opportunity to live life in the caravan when she was a child.’

She adds: ‘If you bring a child into the world and people love and admire her, then you can be very pleased.’
