Joho declares his net worth at Ksh2.3B

Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary nominee Hassan Joho has declared his net worth at Ksh2.3 billion.

Speaking when he appeared before Parliamentary Committee on Appointments on Sunday, August 4, 2024, Joho attributed his wealth to his businesses.

“My net worth is Ksh2,361,332,249,” Joho declared.

Joho’s wealth breakdown

He went ahead to give a breakdown of his wealth, which he said is largely made up of developed and undeveloped property including his homes in Mombasa, Vipingo, Nairobi and Malindi.

He said he also has shares in some property holdings and family businesses.

Joho further attributed his net worth to valuable items such as watches and jewelries.

“My net worth is made up of largely developed and undeveloped properties including my homes in Mombasa, Vipingo, Nairobi and Malindi. shareholding in some property holdings, shareholding in family businesses, valuables like watches, and cash in banks,” Joho stated.

National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah sought to know if Joho had included the family wealth in his net worth.

The former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader maintained that he had only included his shares from the family businesses.

Earlier during his vetting, Joho stated that he only does clean business, as he denied allegations linking him to drug trafficking.

Joho told the MPs that he comes from a family that is blessed with businesses, and that he is thankful to God for what he has.

He noted that he was a great critic of the Jubilee administration during his first term as Mombasa governor, and should any evidence have been found against him, he would not have survived the regime.

He assured the MPs that he only does clean business.

“I am not a fool. I come from a family that is blessed with businesses. That investigation was concluded. During my first term as Mombasa governor, I was a great critic of the Jubilee administration. Do you think for a minute, if I was involved in any illegal activity, would I have survived that regime?” Joho posed.

Joho said a multi-agency team investigated the claims and that no evidence was found against him.
