John Farnham reveals he is cancer-free 12 months after mouth surgery

John Farnham has revealed he is cancer-free, 12 months after having mouth surgery.

Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington revealed the good news for the music superstar, 74, on Wednesday morning.

‘Great news, we’ve just got some breaking news, John Farnham has just announced he is cancer-free,’ Barr revealed.

‘That is a year after the diagnosis,’ she added.

The You’re The Voice singer made a statement to fans on Wednesday.

In his first personal statement since the surgery, Farnham said ‘I am the luckiest man I know right now’.

‘It’s been a year since my first surgery and to be honest I’ve lost count as to how many other procedures there’s been since then. I’m sure someone’s kept track of them all – let’s just say, there’s been a few.’

‘But, I’m home now and I’m a very grateful and happy man. I’m sitting here in my living room lapping up the attention from my beautiful wife, Jill, my boys Rob and James and my mini Schnauzer, Edmund.’

‘It’s only now that I can start to appreciate and comprehend, for myself, how many messages of love and support have been sent to me over the past year.’

‘I don’t know what to say, other than thank you so very much.’ 

‘It honestly means the world to me. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write and send a message.’

“Today is a special day. And I’m going to mark it by having a pizza – because I can! I can’t wait to see what might be next on the menu. Bring on 2024.’

Farnham’s family had previously given updates on behalf of the Australian music legend.

Speaking to Sunrise last month, John’s son Robert Farnham said his father was ‘doing fantastic’ after a 12-hour surgery for throat cancer.

‘Just the other day, he was walking around with his with his cane and did a little bit of a dance, which was pretty fabulous,’ Robert said.

‘He’s walking with his dog a lot, so he’s really, really happy.’

‘He’s doing really good, he’s super positive,’ he told Sunrise.

The beloved star had even started singing again, Robert said.

‘He’s doing really good, he’s super positive,’ he told Sunrise.

Mr Farnham has endured a very private battle against cancer.

The That’s Freedom hitmaker was hospitalised earlier this year after he developed a chest infection following surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his mouth.
