At his funeral, students chanted for justice and sang Juliani’s “Sitasimama Maovu Yakitawala” and traditional Luo songs in tribute. The master of ceremonies urged them to voice their demands for accountability, which they did with passionate chants and songs.

In her speech, Denzel’s mother urged President William Ruto’s administration to address the grievances of the youth. “The government says the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, but tomorrow is now,” she said.

She also thanked the youth, media, rights groups, and other supporters for their solidarity.

Denzel Omondi Disappearance and Murder

Denzel Omondi was last seen at JKUAT on June 26, a day after participating in the deadly protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

His body was discovered on July 7 in a water-filled quarry in Juja. And with visible bruises on his head and legs.

The autopsy report indicated drowning as the cause of death, despite the visible bruises. This suggests he was dumped in the quarry while unconscious.

In response to Omondi’s death, JKUAT students blocked Thika Road in protest, accusing authorities of extrajudicial killing. They demanded a thorough investigation and submitted their grievances to the Juja Police Station.

May Denzel Omondi rest in peace, and justice be served!
