Jambojet has confirmed an accident that happened to one of its aircraft at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on the night of Monday, December 2, 2024.
The regional airline in a press statement issued on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, stated that the incident happened during routine overnight maintenance activities.
Jambojet explained that the involved aircraft had rolled off the ramp while parked, and in the process, it came into contact with a pole, resulting in some damage to its nose.
“Jambojet wishes to confirm an incident involving one of our aircraft during routine overnight maintenance activities. While parked, the aircraft rolled off the ramp and came into contact with a pole, resulting in some damage to its nose,” the statement reads in part.
However, there were no injuries that were reported during the incident.
Investigations
Investigations into the incident have kicked off, with the airline promising to ensure all necessary measures are taken to prevent a recurrence.
“We wish to report that no injuries occurred to our staff during this incident. Our team is working diligently with the authorities to investigate the matter and ensure all necessary measures are taken to prevent a recurrence,” Jambojet stated.
Jambojet further confirmed that the accident aircraft has since been removed from operations until it gets cleared due to safety concerns.
Flight disruptions
The airline says flight disruptions are anticipated due to the incident. Those affected will be communicated to directly.
“Safety remains our top priority, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards in all our operations. The aircraft has since been removed from operations until it is cleared. We anticipate some flight disruptions due to this incident, and affected guests will be communicated to directly. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and reiterate our commitment to the safety of our staff and customers,” the statement read.

This is, however, not the first incident to have happened at JKIA.
On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced the closure of a runway at the JKIA due to an aircraft incident.
However, KAA assured the country and other concerned stakeholders that no injuries were recorded during the incident.
Further, the Airports Authority added that the plane involved in the incident was being removed from the runway before the resumption of normal services.
Moreover, the authority apologised for the inconveniences caused by the incident at Kenya’s international airport, JKIA.
“An aircraft incident has caused runway closure at JKIA. No injuries have been reported. Removal of the aircraft is underway,” Kenya Airports Authority’s statement read in part.
”We apologize for any inconvenience caused and will provide updates shortly,” it added.
