At approximately 10:35 p.m., police found Kathleen Martins of Dartmouth and Jacob Pothier of New Bedford at the intersection of Gulf Road and Smith Neck Road. They had been flung from a Honda Accord and were found unconscious on the road. The car had suffered severe damage, as noted by the police.
Following the accident, Ponthier and Martins were rushed to St. Luke’s in New Bedford. Tragically, Pothier was pronounced dead, while Martins, who sustained serious injuries, remains in a “guarded condition”.
