Jacinta Price’s parents physically attacked after Voice referendum result: ‘No one should have to put up with this nonsense’
Indigenous campaigner Jo Jacinta Price has revealed her family was attacked by strangers and their home vandalized following Saturday’s referendum.
She revealed her white father David Price was attacked after he and wife Bess Nampijinpa spoke to Sky News Australia on Saturday night after the Voice vote.
Their home in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory was also covered in paint in an unprovoked attack by Yes activists, she said.
“It was disappointing,” she told 2GB’s Ben Fordham.
“I learned that someone had thrown an egg at my father and some people had, at some point, thrown paint at their house.
“So you know, they’re a target.”

She blamed “evil” locals in the Red Center town for the attacks, acting in revenge for losing the referendum vote.
“There are some pretty nasty individuals in Alice Springs who obviously don’t like the outcome,” she said. “My concern at times is their safety.
“They don’t have to put up with this kind of nonsense. No one should have to put up with such nonsense.
“And hopefully that will die down and those individuals will wake up to themselves.”
Footage from the Sky interview shows people shouting at the couple off-screen as they spoke of their pride in their daughter’s work in the referendum campaign.
Senator Price was appointed shadow minister for indigenous affairs when the Coalition announced it would oppose Indigenous Voice in Parliament.

Her role in the campaign was said to be key to the outcome of the referendum.
But Mr Price told Sky it had angered some locals in their town.
“That’s what we expect,” he said. “This is what we’ve lived with for years and years.
‘That kind of crazy, aggressive abuse, but basically they’re cowards.
“These people who threaten us and shout at us from passing cars, they will never face us. They have never been in our face.
But we’ve been living with that kind of garbage for years. So, you know, it’s something we expect, we’re used to it, and we don’t really care about it.’
