‘It’s time to speak out’ – Daddy Owen calls out church over silence on killings, corruption

Legendary gospel musician Daddy Owen has called out the church over what he has termed as remaining silent on the recent killings that have been happening in the country.

The ‘Vanity’ hitmaker through his official X account on Friday, July 19, 2024, also urged the church to speak up on corruption and bad governance.

Daddy Owen argues that the church should act as a voice of reason and condemn the killings of young people.

To the CHURCH in Kenya, I urge you with humility: it’s time to speak out! Be a voice of reason, condemn the KILLINGS of young people, speak up against corruption and bad governance,” Daddy Owen wrote.

The musician-cum activist went ahead to state that the church should lead in holding Kenyan leaders to account.

According to Daddy Owen, the church has only been speaking in unity when it is hit with taxes and licensing issues.

Daddy Owen on taking sides

He argues that remaining silent on the bad things happening in the country is a form of taking sides.

“The church should lead in holding the responsible accountable. The church only speaks with unity when it faces the prospect of taxes and licensing of churches. Let’s not remain silent; silence itself is a form of taking sides,” the musician stated.

His call comes in the wake of killings and protests that have marred the country, with bodies of missing persons being discovered in different places.

Killings

The country was two weeks ago hit by shock after female bodies were discovered at an abandoned quarry in Kware, Mukuru Kwa Njenga in Embakasi South Sub-County.

This led to an uproar, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) swiftly jumping into action, and arrested three suspects believed to have committed the murders.

The DCI said the prime suspect identified as Collins Jumaisi Khalusha who has since been detained for 30 days, confessed to having killed 42 women since 2022, with his own wife being his first victim.

However, these are not the only killings that have recently been witnessed in the country.

As the young generation continues to protest against bad governance among other issues, many of them have lost lives through police bullets.
