Israel intensified its strikes on Lebanon on Sunday, targeting areas linked to the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. This follows the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah a few days earlier. Along with Nasrallah, Israel also eliminated other senior commanders, including Nabil Kaouk, deputy head of Hezbollah’s Central Council, and Ali Karaki, who died with Nasrallah. Kaouk’s death marks the seventh senior Hezbollah commander killed in over a week of continuous attacks.

Hezbollah, committed to its “resistance” against Israel, continued to launch rockets and missiles into northern Israel on Sunday. Most of these projectiles were intercepted or landed in uninhabited areas. The group has stated it will cease its rocket fire only if a ceasefire is declared in Gaza.

The recent Israeli airstrikes have resulted in over a hundred fatalities and displaced hundreds of thousands in southern and eastern Lebanon. Environment Minister Nasser Yassin reported that around 250,000 people have taken refuge in shelters, while many others are staying with relatives or camping outdoors.

Despite increasing international calls for a ceasefire, Israel remains firm in its stance, aiming to return its citizens displaced from its northern border with Lebanon back home. The intensifying conflict has heightened global concerns over the possibility of a broader war in the Middle East.
