Irate mob torches vehicle after fatal accident in Ruaka

Drama unfolded in Ruaka after a driver knocked down and killed two pedestrians in Decimo area, Ruaka, Kiambaa constituency, Kiambu County.

Confirming the incident Kiambaa police Commander Pius Mwanthi noted that the victims, a man and woman were crossing the road when the vehicle, a new Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, hit them, killing them on the spot.

“There was an accident that occurred within Ruaka an area known as Desma, there was a vehicle heading towards Ruaka-Ndenderu Road, and on reaching the scene of the accident, it knocked down two pedestrians; a female and a male who died on the spot,” the police commander said.

Following the incident agitated residents set the vehicle on fire, however, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene shortly after the accident.

Commander Pius noted that investigations have since been launched, and a pursuit for the driver is ongoing.

“Our officers responded very fast, both the traffic and OCS and his team, however, the members of the public became very violent because of what happened, they set ablaze the vehicle that was involved in the accident,” he said.

“It’s a new vehicle, it doesn’t have a number plate, we will conduct investigations. As for the owner of the vehicle, he ran away, at the moment he is unknown but we are working on it to find him.”

The wreckage of the burnt vehicle was taken to the police station for further investigations whereas bodies of the deceased were moved to the Kihara mortuary.
