‘Invincible’ Drops Surprise Episode, Season 2 Premiere Date

The wait is over… Sort of. Fans of Prime Video’s critically acclaimed adult animated superhero series Invincible have been eagerly awaiting news of the second season since April of 2021. And now we know when new episodes of Invincible will be available to watch: right now.

Okay, not exactly. Or at least, not “episodes.” As part of the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, the streamer announced that Season 2 of the series will officially premiere on November 3 with one episode a week, for four weeks. The second half of the season, comprising another four episodes, will premiere on a TBA date in 2024.

Seems like a long time away, right? If so, good news, because there’s a full-length, 52-minute-long surprise episode of Invincible on Prime Video right now, tying into a screening of the episode at Comic-Con. Titled “Invincible Atom Eve”, the standalone episode tells the story of the matter-commanding superhero who is sweet on the titular character of Invincible, voiced by Steven Yeun. In “Invincible Atom Eve”, we find out the origin of Atom Eve, voiced at age seven by Aria Kane, and at age 12 by Jazlyn Ione.

Also known as Samantha Eve Wilkins, in the series the teenaged version of Atom Eve is normally voiced by Gillian Jacobs, who does not appear in the episode. That doesn’t mean you won’t get to hear some familiar voices for fans of the show, like Lauren Cohan as War Woman, Phil Lamarr as Sidekick/Salamander, Ross Marquand as Immortal, Aquarus, and Tech, Tatiana Maslany as Queen Lizard, and Khary Payton as Black Samson. In addition, to these recurring roles, the episode also includes Stephen Root as Brandyworth, a scientist key to Atom Eve’s origin, Jacob Tremblay as her antagonist, and the late Lance Reddick as a military man pursuing her.

As usual with Invincible episodes, this one (which was provided for screening purposes to Decider) goes hard. There’s a lot of violence — this isn’t a cartoon for kids — but also a deep well of surprising emotion as we find out exactly where Atom Eve came from, what her purpose is, and the dark tragedies that define her when we catch up with her in the current continuity of the series. There are also some fun surprises peppered throughout that we won’t spoil, including a hilarious end-credits scene that with make you laugh and then suddenly clutch your pearls when you least expect it.
