Inside Adele’s health battles: from painful spinal condition to throat surgery as she postpones Las Vegas show after sickness ‘took toll’ on her voice

Adele has revealed she has been forced to postpone the next dates of her Las Vegas residency after illness ‘took a toll on her voice.’

Days after revealing she had been placed on vocal rest, the 35-year-old singer shared the sad news that all ten of her shows in March would be postponed to a later date after she was ordered to rest.

Adele will complete her Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in June and is expected to earn around £1.5million per show.

It is not the first time that the singer has had to cancel shows due to health problems. A painful spinal condition and throat surgery have caused her to postpone other dates in the past.

Adele first faced a major health problem that would affect her career in 2011, when she was forced to undergo ‘vocal cord microsurgery’ to remove a benign polyp, forcing her to cancel a series of performances.

Adele, then 23 years old, underwent the operation, according to a statement from the Massachusetts General Hospital in the American city of Boston.

“On the advice of her doctor and voice therapist in Britain, Adele came to Boston for consultation and corrective voice surgery,” the statement said.

This type of surgery is intended to prevent repeated bleeding of the vocal cords. and came less than a month after the singer canceled the remaining dates she was scheduled to perform that year.

Adele said on Instagram at the time: “If I continue to take everything before I have properly overcome these issues and nip them in the bud, I will be completely and utterly f****d,” she explained on her blog last month.

‘Singing is literally my life, it is my hobby, my love, my freedom and now my work.’

In 2017, disaster struck the singer again, when she had to cancel the last two shows of her European tour.

She was due to play Wembley Stadium for homecoming shows in London but was forced to withdraw after revealing she had re-damaged her vocal cords in an emotional post on Facebook.

She wrote: ‘On medical advice I simply cannot perform this weekend.’

“To say I am heartbroken would be a complete understatement.”

Adele later revealed that she had inserted copies of a handwritten note into the tour program for the first two nights of her Wembley show.

In a letter posted to the star’s official social media channels, she admitted she was “so desperate” to finish her tour that she had “even considered miming” so the shows could have happened.

Adele promised fans they would be given priority on her next tour, but unhappy ticket holders are still waiting.

In August 2023, Adele revealed to fans that she collapsed backstage before a performance due to a sciatica attack. The sun.

Adele was also forced to sit down during her Weekends With Adele performance, explaining: “I’m going to sit down and rest my sciatica.”

According to the NHSsciatica is ‘where the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back to your feet, is irritated or compressed’.

It can cause shooting pains and a feeling of cramping and can be so severe that a person can no longer walk.

Earlier this year, Adele described her chronic back pain during another show in Las Vegas as she hobbled across the stage.

While talking to the audience, she fired T-shirts at the spectators from a hand cannon and said, “I have two more, I just have to get to the other side of the stage.”

“I have to waddle these days because I’m really suffering from sciatica,” Adele added in the video obtained by the Daily Star.

Adele has previously discussed being in pain for ‘half her life’ before losing weight, and how her body overhaul has helped her cope with her problems.
