On July 15, 2023, Justyn Vicky experienced a life-altering accident while performing a back squat exercise with a 210-kilogram barbell at The Paradise Bali gym. Despite having assistance, he succumbed to fatigue, and the barbell fell, striking the back of his neck and shoulders. The accident left him unconscious with a broken neck, placing critical pressure on vital nerves linked to his heart and lungs. He was immediately taken to Siloam Hospitals and later transferred to Wangaya Regional General Hospital in Denpasar, Bali.
Regrettably, despite surgical intervention on July 16, Vicky slipped into a coma and passed away at 33. Throughout this ordeal, his family, including his mother, son, and ex-wife, remained at his side. Vicky’s death brought to light the dangers of intense weightlifting, sparking conversations about safety in high-risk exercises. His untimely death was mourned by The Paradise Bali gym, where he had spent so much of his time, as well as friends and associates. His attending physician, Dr. I Ketut Suryana, confirmed that the cause of death was a broken neck, underscoring the inherent risks of such strenuous weightlifting activities.
