‘If I’m reappointed, I will escalate measures to eradicate corruption in interior ministry’ – Kindiki

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Kithure Kindiki has assured Kenyans that he will play his role in eradicating corruption in the country if he is re-appointed to the Cabinet.

Speaking when he appeared before the Parliament Committee on Appointments to defend his nomination as Interior CS on Thursday, August 1, 2024, Kindiki stated if granted another chance to be CS, he will push for reforms that would help in taming corruption in the country.

The CS pointed out that he will escalate programs, policies and measures to eradicate corruption within the security sector.

“If I’m reappointed, I’m going to escalate programs, policies and measures to eradicate corruption within the organs of the National Security that are within the Ministry of Interior,” he said.

Kindiki also highlighted reforms he made during his stint as Interior CS.

He stated that under his leadership, the ministry introduced a massive police equipment modernization programme which will be rolled out in five years.

Kindiki also noted that he convinced the government and treasury to allocate resources for major projects.

“We’ve rolled out a massive Police Equipment Modernization Programme which will be rolled out in five years. We were able to convince the government and the Treasury to allocate Sh7 billion which has already been spent to buy air and land assets,” the ex-CS said.

Kindiki was one of the CSs fired when President William Ruto disbanded his government in response to widespread Gen Z protests. At the time, the Head of State stated that the action would allow for the formation of a broad-based cabinet.

He is now one of the ex-CSs nominated by the president.
