HOW NJUGUSH LOST SH.2600 TO NAIROBI SCAMMERS

Nairobi can be a wild place, and comedian Njugush learned this the hard way. During a chat with his wife, Celestine Ndinda, on their podcast, he shared a hilarious story about how he got conned.

“I was walking around St. Peters when I saw something fall in front of me,” Njugush recalls.

A stranger, an older man, asked him to pick it up, and in return, he received Sh.200.

“He invited me to join them for a game. They told me, ‘You can play and earn some more.’”

At first, it seemed harmless. Njugush won Sh.800 from the game and felt on top of the world. But then things took a turn.

“They kept telling me to stay, even when I wanted to quit. I thought, why not? It was fun.”

As the game progressed, Njugush became more invested. “They told me to give them Sh.400 to keep playing,” he said.

Before he knew it, he had given them Sh.1,000, thinking he’d get it back tripled.

But when they opened the container, nothing was inside.

“I started sobbing right there. I lost my cash and what I thought was my winnings—Sh.2,600,” he lamented. The reality hit hard.

Things got even more intense when one of the con artists remarked on his shoes.

“That’s when I knew I was in trouble,” he said. “And I had to run for my life.”

Njugush did learn from the experience as he humorously concluded, “Now I know to be careful about ‘games’ in the city.”
