After admitting that Joe Biden is “old,” former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton cleans up her comments a day later.
She says those who live into their 80s are “lucky” and that Biden, 81, and Donald Trump, 77, are “basically the same age.”
“If you’re lucky enough to live to be 70 or 80, the difference of a few years won’t make much difference,” Clinton posted on Instagram.
‘Joe Biden and Donald Trump are actually the same age. Let’s use that as a basis. I choose Biden. And you?’
Her post comes a day after her comments acknowledging Biden’s “advanced” age.
Clinton, 76, admitted on Tuesday that President Joe Biden is “old,” adding that Americans must accept “the reality” of his age and vote for him to save democracy from Donald Trump.

Clinton’s joke on Joe’s age came during a radio segment with host Zerlina Maxwell. She told Maxwell about a recent conversation she had about the president’s age.
“Someone said to me the other day… ‘Well, but you know, Joe Biden is old.’ I said, ‘You know what, Joe Biden is old. Let’s move on and accept reality. Joe Biden is old,” Clinton said.
“So we have a contest between one candidate who is old, but who has done effective work and does not threaten our democracy,” she continued. “And we still have a candidate who is old, barely speaks when he talks, is dangerous and threatens our democracy.”
She was referring to former President Donald Trump, who at 77 is just a year older than her.
“So, really choose between your two old ones,” she said on Tuesday about the American choice between Biden and Trump as the next president.
Despite Clinton downplaying Biden’s age as a 2024 election issue, recent polls show voters are unsure what impact Biden’s age will have on a potential second term.
About six-in-ten say they do not have much or no confidence in President Biden’s mental ability to serve effectively as president, according to a new survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
Trump, meanwhile, did no better than Biden.
Nearly 6 in 10 also said they have no confidence in the mental abilities of former President Donald Trump, the 77-year-old Republican frontrunner.
Notably, Clinton is one of the few Democrats to acknowledge the president’s advanced age.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., told DailyMail.com in February that Biden is “as sharp as ever.”
Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., similarly said at the time that “the president is doing a fantastic job, and I look forward to ensuring he is re-elected in 2024.”
Questions about the president’s age came into the national spotlight following a January Justice Department report by special counsel Robert Hur.
Notably, Clinton is one of the few Democrats to acknowledge the president’s advanced age
Hur claimed that during the investigation into Biden’s mishandling of classified documents, it was clear that the president has a “poor memory” and “diminished capabilities.”
Biden was described as “a likable, well-meaning, older man” who could not remember when he was vice president or even the date his own son Beau died.
However, the president immediately backtracked on the damning claims to buy Hur, saying his “memory is fine.”
