High Court convicts suspect who killed Bishop Pius Muiru’s mother

The High Court in Murang’a has today convicted Ezekiel Saitabu Nakola, on a charge of murdering Pastor Pius Muiru’s mother, Grace Wangari Mwangi on March 20, 2017.

The convict who had been employed by the deceased as a farmhand is said to have committed the offence at Karega Sub-location in Kigumo Location, Kigumo Sub-County.

In his ruling, Justice Kanyi Kimondo found that the evidence presented by the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence.

“The court found that the ingredients of murder were proved beyond reasonable doubt, and while there were no eyewitnesses or an admissible confession, the circumstances of the case created a complete chain to the guilt of the accused,” a statement by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) reads in parts.

According to the court, the accused, an employee of the deceased is said to have strangled his victim before burying her behind a cowshed.

He then covered the area with a heap of sand and banana stems before stealing from her M-Pesa account.

“The court heard that the accused had been employed by Grace Wangari Mwangi, mother to Bishop Muiru, as her farmhand, a position he held for 10 years. On the fateful day, the accused had strangled the deceased and buried her behind the cowshed, where the carcass of a cow had been buried a few days earlier.
