Hend Bustami sentenced for mother’s fatal assault following cigarette dispute

The Internet has been buzzing with the name Hend Bustami Mother, following a heartrending incident involving the mother-daughter duo. Hend Bustami has been handed a minimum of 15 years to life imprisonment for the fatal assault of her 61-year-old mother, Afaf Hussanen. This shocking event takes place on the heels of Bustami’s previous arrest, where she made claims of being apprehended due to her ‘beauty’.

Earlier this year, Bustami admitted to being “guilty but mentally ill” for the crime of second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. After the horrific act, she was found drenched in blood on a Californian highway and was subsequently arrested. During her grand jury hearing, the prosecutors played a chilling audio recording of Bustami’s 911 call on the night of the murder, where she admitted, “I think I killed my mommy.”

Afaf Hussanen, Hend Bustami’s mother, lost her life in a brutal act of violence when Bustami stabbed her following a dispute over cigarettes at their Las Vegas residence. The details of the horrifying event came to light during Bustami’s trial, where she conceded to being “guilty but mentally ill” to the charge of second-degree murder using a deadly weapon. Reports suggest that an argument over cigarettes turned into a deadly altercation, culminating in Bustami stabbing her mother to death.

Interestingly, the incident happened a month after Bustami had been in the news for another arrest. She gained national attention when she was apprehended at the Harry Reid International Airport for leaving an airport Chili’s restaurant without settling the bill. During the arrest, she voiced her protests to the officers, asserting her ‘beauty’ as a reason for not being detained. Local reports and authorities reveal that she referred to the officers as “perverts”, accusing them of attempting an assault due to her looks. She was reportedly inebriated when officers appeared at the restaurant.

The information available about the case reveals a 32-year-old age gap between Hend Bustami and Afaf Hussanen. As per the family details, Hend Bustami is the daughter of Afaf Hussanen, and the tragic incident happened at their shared residence in Las Vegas. A disagreement over cigarettes led to a violent altercation, ending in Bustami stabbing her mother fatally.

Further information reveals that along with her guilty plea for her mother’s murder, Hend Bustami also confessed to several other felony charges, including burglary, home invasion, and possession of a controlled substance with an intention to sell. She was also charged with selling a controlled substance and gaming-related crimes. As part of her sentence, Bustami has been given a 15-year-to-life prison term, making her eligible for parole in 2037. It has also been reported that she will be given the chance to receive mental health treatment and participate in programs during her imprisonment.
