Heavy rain warning issued for 23 provinces, flash floods possible

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning of heavy rainfall in 23 provinces, cautioning residents about potential flash floods and forest runoffs. The alert advises against maritime activities due to high waves up to 3 metres in stormy areas.

At 5am today, TMD forecasted weather conditions for the next 24 hours, from 6am until 6am tomorrow. The moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is expected to bring heavy rain in certain areas in the north, east, and southern west coast regions.

Residents in these areas are advised to be vigilant for the dangers of heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which could cause sudden flooding and forest runoffs, especially in hillside regions near waterways and low-lying areas. The upper Andaman Sea is experiencing moderate winds with waves reaching up to 2 metres and over 2 metres in stormy conditions. Mariners in these areas are urged to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy conditions.

The northern region will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Tak provinces. The lowest temperatures will range from 25 to 26 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius.

In the northeastern region, thunderstorms will occur in 30% of the area, mainly affecting Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom provinces. Temperatures will range from a low of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to a high of 33 to 37 degrees Celsius.

The central region will see thunderstorms in 30% of the area, especially in Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Samut Songkhram provinces. The lowest temperatures will be between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures ranging from 34 to 37 degrees Celsius.

Other regions

The eastern region will have thunderstorms in 40% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces. Temperatures will range from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius on the low end and 32 to 36 degrees Celsius on the high end. The sea will see waves of 1 to 2 metres, with stormy areas experiencing waves over 2 metres.

In the southern region (east coast), thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. The lowest temperatures will range from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures between 34 and 37 degrees Celsius.

From Nakhon Si Thammarat upwards, the sea will see waves of 1 to 2 metres, with stormy areas experiencing waves over 2 metres. From Songkhla downwards, the sea will see waves of about 1 metre, with waves reaching 1 to 2 metres in stormy areas.

The southern region (west coast) will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Ranong and Phang Nga provinces. The lowest temperatures will be between 23 and 27 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures ranging from 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.

From Krabi upwards, the sea will see waves of about 2 metres, with stormy areas experiencing waves between 2 and 3 metres. From Trang downwards, the sea will have waves of 1 to 2 metres, with waves over 2 metres in stormy areas.

Bangkok and its vicinity will experience thunderstorms in 30% of the area. The lowest temperatures will be between 27 and 28 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures ranging from 34 to 36 degrees Celsius.
