Harvey Weinstein was taken from Rikers Island to Bellevue Hospital for emergency heart surgery after experiencing chest pains.
Representatives Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer stated, “Mr. Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue Hospital last night due to several medical conditions. He had a procedure and surgery on his heart today but we cannot provide further details.”
They added, “Mr. Weinstein suffers from significant health issues requiring ongoing treatment. We appreciate the swift action of the executive team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island in transferring him to Bellevue Hospital.”
Weinstein, 72, is facing a court appearance this week in New York, where prosecutors are presenting evidence to a grand jury for a new indictment on sex crimes charges.
Weinstein maintains his innocence, asserting his sexual encounters were consensual.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has since presented evidence to a grand jury, potentially leading to a new indictment over an alleged sexual assault between late 2005 and mid-2006 in a lower Manhattan residential building, as per a transcript from an unannounced court hearing last week.
Prosecutors also mentioned during a hearing on 3 September that they were aware of two other potential offenses: a sexual assault in May 2016 at a Tribeca hotel and another potential sexual assault at the Tribeca Grand hotel.
This incident follows a previous hospitalisation in July, when Weinstein was transferred to Bellevue after testing positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia, according to Rothfeld.
