Harry and Meghan to tour Colombia for cultural and online safety

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to visit Colombia for four days later this summer. Vice President Francia Marquez extended the invitation to Harry and Meghan. The visit aims to highlight Colombia’s cultural heritage and discuss strategies for creating safer online environments. This follows their earlier trip to Nigeria this year.

Although the Sussexes no longer serve as working royals, their visit to Colombia will resemble an official state visit. Their itinerary includes time in Bogotá, Cartagena, and Cali. The couple looks forward to meeting young people and youth leaders during their stay.

Ms Marquez expressed her pleasure at the Sussexes accepting her invitation, noting it will “illuminate Colombia’s role as a beacon of culture and innovation.” Colombia will host the international Ending Violence Against Children conference in November, focusing on online safety and cyber-bullying. Many of the Sussexes’ engagements will align with these themes, reflecting their Archewell Foundation’s work.

Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan spent three days in Nigeria to celebrate ten years of the Invictus Games. Their visit included a traditional welcome ceremony and a school visit where they interacted with students.

Despite the private nature of their trips, most engagements occur publicly and bear a resemblance to royal tours. Specific details of their Colombia visit remain undisclosed. This marks another significant step for the couple as they redefine their roles outside the Royal Family. The King and Queen last visited Colombia nearly ten years ago.
