Harley Street gynaecologist who called for London borough to be ‘Jew free’ is not racist but ‘comfortable with discriminatory language’, tribunal finds

  • He called colleagues ‘leprechaun’, ‘alky’, ‘s***t for brains’ and ‘big nose’

A doctor who called for Hammersmith to be ‘Jew-free’ is not a racist but is ‘comfortable with using discriminatory language’, an independent tribunal has found.

Dr. Dimitrios Psaroudakis, a consultant gynaecologist, has been suspended for three months by the General Medical Council after making a number of racially offensive, sexist and derogatory comments about his colleagues and patients.

The Harley Street gynaecologist, who worked at The Evewell fertility clinic, called Jewish colleagues ‘leprechaun’, ‘alky’, ‘s**t for brains’ and ‘big nose’ in messages emailed to a colleague (Ms A ) were sent and Microsoft Teams between 2020 and 2022.

Dr. Psaroudakis told the tribunal that he used the term ‘Yew’ or ‘Yewish’ in the messages, replacing the ‘J’ of Jewish with a ‘Y’, because of his accent.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service concluded: ‘The evidence suggested that it was Dr. Psaroudakis was to select and use what could be considered offensive or derogatory characteristics of people he didn’t like or get along with, and use those terms liberally to describe them.

“Rather than use someone’s name or working title, Dr. Psaroudakis preferred to make unpleasant and unacceptable references to protected characteristics of colleagues.

‘The Tribunal does not find that Dr Psaroudakis is a racist, but is satisfied that he is someone who is reasonably comfortable using discriminatory language.’

Dr. Psaroudakis resigned in September 2022 and his suspension took effect in mid-January 2024, approximately fourteen months later.

The three-month suspension will allow Dr. Psaroudakis to practice again from April this year.

The tribunal heard that Dr Psaroudakis joked about the death of a patient’s husband, who committed suicide, saying ‘he smelled her shoes?’, referring to the patient.

Dr. Psaroudakis referred to a telephone conversation between himself and Mrs. A, in which he took her to say that the patient’s husband had “passed out,” when in fact she had said “died.”

However, the tribunal had no evidence of such a call and did not accept the consultant’s explanation.

It said such comments by a medical professional about the suicide of a patient’s husband were “appalling, disrespectful and morally reprehensible.”

Some of the sexually explicit messages referred to ‘lube’ and ‘gregging’ – a sex act involving a hat, while one sexist email read: ‘if we hire another woman I’m going to kill myself’.

The General Medical Council said a three-month suspension reflected the “seriousness of the misconduct” and would “send a message to the physician, the profession and the public that such behavior is unacceptable.”

It read: ‘Dr. Psaroudakis admitted his wrongdoing, fully admitted the accusation and has taken steps to correct his actions.

“He has made sincere expressions of regret, remorse and apology, and has not attempted to blame others.

‘Dr. Psaroudakis himself has referred to the GMC and has fully engaged with his regulator and this process, and he has cooperated with the GMC by making the emails and messages of his comments public when requested. His comments were intended to be private and never intended to be made public.”

Dr. Psaroudakis has been contacted by MailOnline for comment.
