Princess Sofia of Sweden and her husband Prince Carl Philip have shared a sweet new portrait of their youngest son, Prince Julian, to mark his third birthday.

The royal couple shared the image on their official Instagram account, writing when it was translated into English: “Today we celebrate 3 years with you, beloved Julian.”

In the adorable photo, Julian, wearing a giraffe-themed sweater, smiles at the camera as he sits behind a yellow cake, holding a candle in the shape of the number three.

The proud parents also shared on their Instagram Stories today a video of the youngster looking fascinated by the smoke flying away after blowing out his birthday candle.

Julian, the youngest of the eight grandchildren of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, had his blonde locks combed into a side part for the occasion.

The Swedish royal family shares photos of their family on Instagram for important occasions, such as birthdays, which often delight fans.

The third son of Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip was born on March 26, 2021 in a hospital in Greater Stockholm.

Shortly afterwards, Princess Sofia wrote on social media: ‘Life has given me not one, but four beautiful princes.

‘Thank you very much on our behalf for all the warm congratulations on the birth of Julian.’

Last year, Princess Sofia and her husband Prince Carl Philip shared a sweet family photo as they celebrated the arrival of summer.

The image, shared with Instagrampictured the proud parents with their three children, Prince Alexander, seven, Prince Gabriel, six, and their youngest Prince Julian.

“Summer greetings from us,” the caption reads when translated into English.

The family of five were dressed for summer, with Alexander and Gabriel both wearing pastel T-shirts and neutral shorts, and Julian wearing denim dungarees and a white top.

The youngest royal looked away from the camera and sat on his mother’s lap, while his father sat next to Princess Sofia, while Alexander and Gabriel posed on a wooden chair between their parents.

Makeup-free Sofia looked as demure as her sons; she opted for a pink patterned outfit, kept her straight hair loose and wore a colorful bracelet on her wrist.

Her husband – the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and currently fourth in line to the Swedish throne – appeared casual in a white T-shirt and gray shorts.

In 2019, King Carl XVI Gustaf decided that Princess Sofia’s sons, as well as those of Prince Carl Philip’s sister Princess Madeline, will not have HRH titles.

Although they will still be called princes and princesses, they will not receive any tax money.

At the announcement, Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip said their children would have more freedom as they grow older.

When asked by Royal Central if she had ever considered stepping back from royal life, Sofia said: ‘No. Not really. I think I have found such a fantastic balance and I really see it as a positive that I have survived these stormy years.

“It’s such a huge advantage, because we have the opportunity to be a little bit in both worlds.”

During the pandemic, Princess Sofia attended a three-day medical course at Sophiahemmet University College in Stockholm, where she is honorary president.

This meant she could help with healthcare work. Photos emerged of her washing and posing with other staff members who worked at the Sophiahemmet hospital.
