Celebrity dermatologist Dr Mariano Busso says the treatment, which can cost up to £5,000, has become the latest ‘go-to’ operation ahead of a red carpet appearance. Dr. Busso said, “Hands immediately reveal a person’s true age. They are often neglected.

“But then they’re on the red carpet and the cameras catch old hands full of veins, wrinkles and age spots.”

He adds that he has seen a sharp increase in celebrities coming into his Beverly Hills office to have soothing fillers injected into the backs of their hands to give them a youthful plumpness ahead of the March 10 awards.

He uses lasers to zap away broken blood vessels and a procedure called sclerotherapy to collapse unsightly bulging veins.

Sclerotherapy uses a saline solution, with ingredients like sodium tetradecyl sulfate and chromated glycerin, to cause large veins to collapse and cause scarring, forcing the body to shunt blood through smaller, healthier veins.

Former supermodel Janice Dickinson, 69, says she plans to undergo hand rejuvenation next week. ‘I’m proud of how I look. Dr. Busso lifted my thread (an anti-aging facial procedure), but my hands – that’s another story. They could use some TLC. I want my hands to match my face.”

The final cost of the procedure depends on the amount of filler used to smooth out the wrinkles, the type of laser used and how much time the doctor has to spend on each patient. Results last 12 to 15 months.

According to reports in the US, Madonna, no stranger to plastic surgery, is said to have undergone hand rejuvenation.
