Gwen Stefani talks new single, touring, motherhood and marriage to Blake Shelton in new interview

Gwen Stefani is ready for her post-pandemic era.

In an interview with Fault magazine, the Spiderwebs singer, 53 – who is promoting her beauty line GXVE in London – dished about life including her new single True Babe, her upcoming European tour, motherhood and her marriage to Blake Shelton, 47.

‘I had my family break up and that took a while to transition into the next part of my life,’ she said referring to her split from Gavin Rossdale, 57, with whom she shares three sons.

‘Then the pandemic happened… but I still wanted to put something out. But then I got married [laughs], and when that happened, I felt I wanted to really be in that moment and not rush back to finish the album,’ she explained.

And her new single is about Shelton. ‘He likes it,’ she told the outlet without elaborating more on the Ol’ Red singer’s thoughts.

The Just a Girl singer also talked about putting her new music together, saying: ‘I also feel I was trying to really find the record. I started on one route of the style of music I wanted to do but then find it through living.

‘And a lot of time went by, so it’s been a couple of years and now I feel I’m in this really crazy zone where I’m writing the songs I wanted to write. It just kind of took a long time,’ she explained.

The Rich Girl hitmaker also explained that she just needed some downtime as well, pointing out that she did a Las Vegas residency for two years, was on The Voice seven times and has a lot of kids.

‘I have three boys and it’s hard to space it all out, it’s really hard. I mean, anyone that’s a mum would probably be like, “How does she do all of those things?” because it is impossible,’ she said.

The Don’t Speak songstress shares Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, nine, with her ex-husband.

‘So that’s why getting to this point where I actually get to put a little music out is exciting. I have had this new song for like two years! Time goes by so quickly. But here we are!’

And as for why she chose the U.K. for her first shows since her Las Vegas residency wrapped in 2021, it is pretty simple – it was the music London was putting out in the early 1980s.

‘The first music that I got into that started to build my identity as a human being was when my older brother brought home a Madness album,’ she said.

‘I know that Madness is huge in the UK, but in the US they had Our House and Must Be Love, but they were still underground in that whole scene.

‘And so that record led us into The Specials, The Selector, and everything from Bad Manners to UB40 and everything that we loved that set the tone for the music and our identity as human beings,’ she explained.

She continued: ‘A long answer to a little question, it’s my DNA, and everything that I am inspired by originally music-wise is London, so I have a huge respect.

‘And not to mention, the first designer piece that I ever bought, by accident, I didn’t even know I was buying a Vivian Westwood at the time,’ the fashionista exclaimed.

‘It’s almost one of those places you wanna impress so bad. You want them to like you so bad and you love them so much. Just the fact they know you is exciting,’ she gushed.

‘So, it’s big for me. To be able to do Hyde Park and to be at the show with another incredible artist, it’s gonna be crazy. I try not to think about it too much because it’s going to get me nervous but I am excited,’ she said.
