Grammys 2024: Awkward! Olivia Rodrigo gets polite applause from Taylor Swift after performing her hit Vampire amid wild fan theory song was written about their rumored feud

Taylor Swift closed the alleged rift between her and Olivia Rodrigo by singing along during her performance of Vampire at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Following long-standing, fan-fueled rumors of a feud between the superstars after Rodrigo, 20, was forced to give Swift, 34, a credit for her song Deja Vu and millions in royalties, the 13-time Grammy winner clearly she harbored no ill will towards the former Disney Channel.

To the surprise of many social media users, the Cruel Summer hitmaker, who announced she is releasing a new album in April, was one of many musicians cheering on Rodrigo as she released the first part of her second album, Guts.

As Rodrigo sang about being manipulated by someone and being wiser, Swift eagerly jumped to her feet, recited the lyrics and clapped to show her support.

“Taylor sings along and cheers for Olivia… the war is over,” one user wrote on X after seeing the performance.

Another wrote: “Taylor sings along to Olivia Rodrigo’s song, now Swifties can shut up their imaginary beef.”

“But Stan Twitter said Taylor and Olivia have beef, so how can this be possible?” a third wrote snidely.

A handful of fans from both fandoms were happy that their friendship seemed “alive and well” again.

“Finally, the Taylor and Olivia feud rumors can now go away,” one hopeful X user wrote.

In September, Rodrigo broke her silence amid speculation that her song, Vampire, was also Swift.

When the topic came up, the singer initially wondered, “How should I answer this?” and continued, “I mean, I never want to say who my songs are about.”

‘I’ve never done that before in my career and probably never will. I think it’s better not to pigeonhole a song that’s about this one thing,” she told The Guardian at the time.

Still, the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star said she was “very surprised” when she heard that “people thought” the song was about the Shake It Off singer.

Some lyrics that raised fans’ eyebrows included: “While you sunk your teeth into me, oh/Bloodsucker, famef***er/Bleedin’ me dry, like a godd**n vampire.”

Both Olivia and Taylor first crossed paths in 2021 and seemingly had a budding friendship as Rodrigo’s music career began to take off.

She told me earlier Billboard the same year the Bad Blood hitmaker had written to her after releasing hits like Driver’s License.

‘I don’t want to give too much away, because it is very sweet and personal. But she talks a lot about how, I think, you make your own luck in the world. And when you do kind things for others, good things come your way,” the actress explained.

However, in the following years, fans began to speculate that all was not well within their friendship when the duo stopped hanging out.

In 2021, Olivia released her album Sour and faced copyright issues with some songs, including Deja Vu.

The star had re-recorded a melody from Taylor’s Cruel Summer, resulting in Rodrigo later giving both co-writing credits and royalties to Swift. She later faced a similar situation with Paramore.

‘I love Cruel Summer. That’s one of my favorite songs ever. I love the screamy voice in it, the harmonized screams she does. I feel like they’re super electric and moving, so I wanted to do something like that,” the beauty shared Rolling stone also in 2021.

Vampire is included on Rodrigo’s upcoming second studio album, titled Guts, which will be released on September 8, 2023.

The single was previously released on June 30 and quickly became a fan favorite, jumping to the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Other songs on the LP include All-American B***h, The Grudge, Bad Idea Right? and also Teenage Dream. While speaking to The Guardian, she discussed the songs on Guts, such as All-American B***h.

“I’ve been experiencing a lot of emotional turmoil because of all these feelings of anger and dissatisfaction that I couldn’t express, especially in my work,” she told the outlet.

‘I always felt: you can never admit it, you always have to be so grateful, so many people want this position.’

She added, “And that causes a lot of suppressed feelings. I’ve always struggled with wanting to be the perfect American girl and the reality that I don’t always feel that way.”

Olivia hinted that the entire album is “so much about growing up and finding your footing in the world.”
