Governor Nassir expresses grief over sudden demise of Mombasa Cement owner

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of prominent businessman Hasmukh Kanji Patel, the owner of Mombasa Cement Limited.

Nassir learned of Patel’s demise on Thursday, August 29, 2024, while attending the homecoming event of National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi in Homa Bay.

“We have learned with sadness of the passing of businessman Hasmukh ‘Hasuu’ Patel of Mombasa Cement Limited in Mombasa,” Governor Nassir said in a statement.

Nassir paid a heartfelt tribute to Patel, praising his extensive philanthropic contributions to society.

“Mr. Patel will be remembered for his active participation in society affairs in Mombasa as well as his generous support for the underprivileged,” he added.

“I take this opportunity on behalf of the County Government of Mombasa to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the departed. We will stand with you during this difficult time.”

Patel, who departed this life at the age of 58, was renowned for his charitable work across the coastal region, particularly in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties.

Among his many initiatives was a feeding program that provided food to thousands of p****e daily.

He was also known for his involvement with the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, where his company paid medical bills for patients unable to afford their treatment.

The news of Patel’s passing was officially announced by Tudor MCA Samir Bhaloo at Pandya Memorial Hospital, where Patel’s body was taken for preservation ahead of the burial rites.

“It is very sad this day to announce the déath of Mr. Hasmukh Kanji Patel. The CEO of Mombasa Cement has left us,” Bhaloo stated.

He revealed that Patel breathe his last around 1 pm and described the suddenness of the d***h as shocking.

According to Bhaloo, Patel was at home and appeared to be in good health, making his sudden demise even more unexpected.

“He had a stomachache. It is God’s work. Let’s pray for him,” Bhaloo said.

Patel’s passing marks the loss of a significant figure in Mombasa’s business community, known not only for his entrepreneurial success but also for his unwavering commitment to philanthropy.

As Mombasa and the larger coastal community mourn, his contributions to society are remembered with great admiration and respect.
