A new government initiative has been launched to alleviate the burden of utility costs for households in Thailand. The programme, aimed at state welfare cardholders, offers a single electricity and water subsidy per household, linked to one household registration code.
Eligible participants must confirm their identity and register for the subsidy, which applies to either electricity or water services, not both.
This relief scheme is a response to the growing financial strain on citizens due to rising utility costs. With the cost of living increasing, the government has recognised the need to support those most vulnerable.
The programme is structured so that each qualifying household can claim assistance for either their electricity or water bill, ensuring that the aid reaches a broader section of the population.
To facilitate the registration process, the programme allows applicants to register through various channels. For electricity bill subsidies, registrations can be submitted at the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) offices or through their website, with further assistance available by calling 1130.
Similarly, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has made provisions for registration on their website or by calling 1129. For those under the Navy’s electricity concession business, the registration can be completed online or by contacting 086 848 1284.
Water bill subsidy registrations are also streamlined for user convenience. The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) allows registrations at their offices or online, with a helpline at 1125 for inquiries. The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) accepts registrations on its website or via its contact number 1662.
To benefit from the subsidy, registrations for electricity must be completed by the end of the month, while water subsidy registrations must be submitted by the 25th of each month. Successful applicants will receive their first subsidy for the following billing cycle as per the stipulated conditions.
