Girl, 8, stabbed in Christchurch; two suspects detained

Authorities have detained two individuals following the stabbing of a young girl in Christchurch, Dorset. The victim, approximately eight years old, was transported to hospital, where her injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening.

Police were alerted to the incident at a residence on Glider Close, Christchurch at 5:45 pm on Tuesday. A man in his 20s from Christchurch was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Additionally, a local woman in her 50s was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Chief Superintendent Stewart Dipple stated there will be an increased police presence in the area as officers continue their investigations. He urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has pertinent information to come forward. Dipple emphasised enquiries are still in the early stages and requested the public refrain from speculation.

He acknowledged the community’s concerns and assured neighbourhood policing teams would be patrolling the area in the coming days and available for public interaction.
