Gio Reyna has insisted his family feud with USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter ‘isn’t even an issue anymore’ after sparking their 3-1 win over Jamaica on Thursday night.
The Nottingham Forest loanee was at the center of a row between Berhalter and his parents in the aftermath of the 2022 World Cup.
Reyna, a son of former U.S. captain Claudio Reyna and midfielder Danielle Egan, was limited to a pair of substitutes during the tournament in Qatar.
Berhalter said during a press conference after the tournament that he almost sent a player home for lack of effort during training, comments about Reyna evident.
Reyna’s parents then contacted the U.S. Soccer Federation about a thirty-year-old domestic violence allegation involving Berhalter and the woman who later became his wife.

Berhalter was replaced by a pair of interim coaches and, after a law firm retained by the USSF determined he had not improperly withheld information when he was hired in 2018, he was rehired in June to resume coaching in September.
Reyna returned to the USMNT roster in October 2023 and will likely be part of the squad for this summer’s Copa America.

The USMNT escaped defeat in Texas with an own goal in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, before Wright scored twice in extra time.

Both of Wright’s goals were scored by Reyna, who came on at the start of the second half after being limited to 42 minutes following four substitute appearances for Forest since leaving on loan from Dortmund on January 31.
“When we scored in the last minute, I knew we had the depth and the energy for the last thirty minutes to score a few more goals,” Reyna said.
