Gavin Rossdale opened up about his “grueling” divorce from Gwen Stefani on Thursday.
The Bush frontman, 58, has remained largely silent about his ex, 54, following their divorce in 2016 after almost 13 years of marriage.
However, in the final episode of the Amy & TJ podcasthe candidly discussed his “shame” over the divorce, admitting it hurt to leave their children Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10, with a “broken home.”
“I never thought I would ever get divorced, so there is a simple shame in my life,” the rock star began.
“I feel sorry for my children,” he continued. “I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives.” It wasn’t fun for me coming from a broken home.’

He added: ‘It can be quite debilitating for children. The most important thing is that you don’t want to abandon your children.’
Gavin and Gwen collided romantically in the late 1990s and married in 2002.
After welcoming three sons and nearly thirteen years of marriage, the superstar couple announced their divorce, shocking fans. The couple officially divorced in 2016.
During the podcast, Gavin said he felt restricted after the breakup, saying he was hesitant to discredit his ex despite what he called a “very controversial, hugely emotional, flaring situation.”
“Less said, recovered as quickly as possible and I said nothing,” he explained.
‘It’s not for me to say anything. I’m fascinated because I would never want to say anything overly negative about their mother. That’s just not right.’
He also lamented the rift between the co-parents, without directly naming the pop singer.
“The biggest thing would be when you see the kids that sometimes there is a loss,” he said. ‘It would be nice if there was more of a connection with the person who made them for me.’

Gwen has now found love with country singer Blake Shelton, whom she married in 2021.
Their romance blossomed on the set of The Voice while Shelton was dealing with his divorce from fellow American Miranda Lambert.
“I go to a lot of events where there’s ‘the other team,’ so to speak, and I’m just really proud of myself in my consistency as a dad. I know in my heart that I’m super consistent,” Gavin said on Thursday’s podcast, appearing to refer to Gwen and Blake.
Despite this feeling, Gavin expressed a sense of peace about the outcome of his relationship with Gwen.
‘I guess there are no accidents in life, so you are where you need to be. So I don’t live with regrets,” he added. “Life just unfolds as it should.”
When they separated in 2015, the couple made a joint announcement: “Although we have come to the decision together that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenting and are committed to co-parenting children. our three sons in a happy and healthy environment.
