Gary Ablett Jr takes daughter Grace, two, to her first footy game as he celebrates landmark occasion

AFL legend Gary Ablett Jr works hard to ensure his children share their love of the game with him.

The former Geelong star, 39, took his two-year-old daughter Grace to the MCG on Monday to watch his old team take on Hawthorn.

Ablett’s wife Jordan shared an adorable photo on Instagram of Gary walking around the stadium holding hands with his daughter and captioned it with some sweet words.

‘First football match! And Tom ‘Hawk’ Hawkins’ 350th,” Jordan wrote alongside the photo.

She also shared a photo of Gary cooking up a storm with his old team as they celebrated Geelong star Tom Hawkins’ 350th match played.

‘The boys for the big man, Hawk 350! Congratulations, what a wonderful day to celebrate with you.’

Gary married his long-term girlfriend Jordan Papalia on New Year’s Day 2016 and he shares three children with her: Levi, four, Grace, two, and Ezra, ten months.

In January, they shared an update on their newborn son, six months after announcing his birth.

The AFL star revealed their son, who they welcomed in July, is called Ezra (Ez for short).

“We’re in a really good place,” the Geelong Cats star told the BBC Herald Sun.

“When I think about this year, all I think about is three kids and they’re still very young, lots of family time.”

In an interview with The Significant Others podcast in March 2021, Jordan spoke about the family’s heartbreak after Levi was diagnosed with a degenerative disease.

She said it took a long time for her son to be diagnosed with the unspecified illness, and described the devastation she and Gary felt after learning the disease was “life-threatening.”

Jordan said she and Gary first became concerned after noticing Levi wasn’t reaching the same milestones as other children his age.

They decided to make the little boy’s condition public because they didn’t want to lie when people asked about their son.
