Enzo Fernandez had to be led away after being mocked by a Liverpool fan following Chelsea’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final.

The Argentine has had a torrid time at Stamford Bridge since arriving for a British record fee of £107million during Graham Potter’s time in charge of the club in January last year.

Sunday’s match offered the former Benfica star his first chance at success with the Blues, but it was ultimately not to be.

At Wembley, goals from both teams were disallowed by VAR, and Fernandez missed a golden opportunity to put his team ahead when he tried to play a backheel early in the second half instead of playing into a teammate.

The match remained goalless until deep into extra time before Virgil van Dijk scored from a late corner to secure victory for the Reds.

Frustration among Mauricio Pochettino’s side was palpable after the final whistle, but none more so than with Fernandez as he went to collect his second medal.

As the 23-year-old made the long walk up the Wembley steps, a Liverpool fan shouted “Enzo, you unfortunate boy” before bursting into laughter.

Fernandez was clearly indignant at the provocation and immediately looked back at the supporter.

However, the reaction only caused the fan to burst out laughing even more, before he was promptly led away by his teammate Jimi Tauriainen.

The fan later shared the images on social media, writing: ‘ApproxIf anyone gets @Enzo13Fernandez some food, he must be really hungry, really biting, there said just look closer, next year he wanted to hit men 200,000 a week plus n he just stood in front of me’

However, Fernandez wasn’t the only one feeling the pressure after such an embarrassing defeat.

Some supporters on social media noticed that Pochettino appeared to disapprove of Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after the defeat.
