Flight attendants risk £10,000 fines for passenger non-compliance

Flight attendants issue numerous orders after passengers board an aircraft, and there’s a good reason for it. They aim to avoid hefty fines for non-compliance with rules. One cabin crew member explained that they don’t intend to be bossy.

In a viral TikTok video, Keana, an American Airlines flight attendant, highlighted this issue. “Did you know flight attendants can get fined $10,000 from their own money by the FAA?” she asked.

She urged passengers to follow instructions such as placing bags under seats, not holding children over two years old during the flight, and ensuring pets don’t block the aisle. “Please, just listen,” she pleaded.

Keana hopes passengers will heed her and her colleagues’ instructions. She stressed the importance of these requests, reiterating the potential fine if passengers don’t comply.

Each time she fails to remind passengers to fasten seat belts, stow bags, lift trays, or adjust seats, there’s a risk of a $10,000 fine if FAA officials are on board. “I don’t care that the last flight attendant didn’t ask you to follow the rules. They didn’t care about the fine. I care about that fine,” she said.

She concluded humorously, suggesting passengers either comply or send her money via CashApp.

UNILAD has contacted the Federal Aviation Administration for additional information.

Flight attendants face other challenges as well, including dealing with unpleasant passenger habits.

Marisa Mackle shared one particularly annoying behaviour on Lunchtime Live. “One of the most annoying things for me was when people would blow their nose and hand you the tissue,” she said.
