When the heavens opened over Sri Racha in Chon Buri province, it brought with it two hours of relentless downpour yesterday, March 19. This torrential rainfall was the catalyst for a series of flash floods that wreaked havoc across the district.
The intersection beneath the Nong Yai Bu Bridge, situated in the Nong Kho area of Nong Kham sub-district, was one of the worst-hit areas. The water levels had risen alarmingly, reaching almost 1 metre. This rendered the intersection impassable for small vehicles and motorcycles, causing significant disruption to the regular flow of traffic.
Motorcycles were seen almost swallowed by the floodwaters, and their riders were compelled to abandon their rides and push them through the water. This led to considerable traffic snarls, causing frustration and delays amongst road users.
However, the Nong Yai Bu Bridge was not the only area bearing the brunt of the deluge. In Mab Aeng, Nong Kham sub-district, the Pinthong Road area was under assault from the heavy rain. The road was entirely engulfed by floodwaters, with water gushing down from the nearby hills adding to the severity of the situation. Several cars were almost completely submerged, their roofs barely visible above the water.
The entrance of Supalai Park Ville also fell victim to the floods. The area, known for its low-lying topography, was quickly overrun with water, making road access incredibly challenging, reported The Pattaya News.
This weather event was not exclusive to Sri Racha. Several other provinces across Thailand, including the nation’s capital, Bangkok, also reported heavy rainfall this morning.
In related news, The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a severe summer storm warning for 45 provinces, including the capital Bangkok, as strong winds, thunderstorms, hail, and occasional lightning struck at 5am today, March 20. It is the seventh summer storm warning issued by the TMD this year.
