Fernando Torres rolls back the years with flurry of stunning goals in training ahead of Liverpool Legends vs Ajax Legends

Fernando Torres rolled back the years with a string of impressive goals ahead of Liverpool Legends’ match against Ajax Legends.

The 40-year-old is expected to take charge for the Reds in the LFC Foundation’s annual charity match on Saturday, with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Maxi Rodriguez, Sami Hyypia and Momo Sissoko also set to feature on a nostalgic afternoon at Anfield.

Torres looked sharper than ever ahead of the match and reminded fans just how good he was during his time on Merseyside.

In a clip posted by the club at Xhe scored a number of goals, including a trivela finish and a close post-flick.

Fans took to social media to praise the former striker, with one saying: ‘El Nino still has that spark’.

Another wrote: ‘I don’t know if I’m angry, sad, happy or heartbroken.’

A third Liverpool fan even urged the club to resign Torres until the end of the season as he would still score goals.

He wrote: ‘Get this guy in the team until the end of the season and I bet he will get you 5-10 important goals.

Torres was a big hit with Liverpool fans after joining the club in 2007, scoring 81 goals in 142 appearances.

In January 2011, the Spaniard broke the hearts of Liverpool fans when he signed for Chelsea for a then British record transfer fee of £50 million.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Torres struggled for consistency, but won the Champions League and FA Cup in the 2011/2012 season, as well as the Europa League the following season.

He later returned to Atletico Madrid (where he had started his career) before joining Japanese side Sagan Tosu.

Torres is currently the coach of Atletico Madrid’s Under-19 team.
