Katie Taylor regained the undisputed light-welterweight title after defeating Chantelle Cameron by majority decision in Dublin (95-95, 98-92, 96-94), stunning fans in ‘the fight of the year’ on Saturday night.
After suffering defeat at the hands of her English foe in front of the same home crowd in May, the Bray Bomber took revenge despite a first-round slip.
In doing so, she became a three-division world champion, an undisputed two-division champion, and only the second boxer in history, male or female, to hold all four major boxing titles simultaneously in two weight classes during the four-belt era.
Taylor avenged her only defeat of her professional career against the backdrop of rioting and looting in the city, although seemingly the entire 13,000-strong crowd was united in their support of the 37-year-old.
As both fighters traded blows in a match that went the distance, many fans on social media have claimed it was one of the best of the year, with some applauding Taylor’s sporting relevance in her home country.

On X, user wrote: ‘What a fight! Vintage Taylor for 7 and then she held on. Literal. Irish sporting legend!!’
Another added: ‘Ireland’s biggest. #TaylorCameron fight of the year. Absolutely phenomenal fight. Unbelievable…’
One boxing fan claimed the win harkened back to Taylor’s best year, writing: ‘What a fight. Those first rounds were vintage Katie Taylor.”
A fourth viewer suggested it was a pretty clear win for the home favourite: ‘Fight of the year, I’ve got Taylor by three rounds.’
And a fifth were clearly surprised by what they had seen: ‘What an incredible fight. Hon Katie, followed by two Irish flags.
Taylor was visibly shaken by her performance after the decision was announced, but was already looking ahead to a possible trilogy fight – again in front of an Irish audience.
‘Oh my God. Two-weight undisputed champion, that sounds very nice! Those were the longest six months of my life. This is my real homecoming.
‘The person who wrote me off doesn’t really know. Never doubt me. The last fight you saw the worst of me and the best of Chantelle and it was still a close fight. Tonight you saw the real me and no one can beat me.
‘Let’s get the trilogy in Croke Park!’
