Famous makanga bae is dead, family confirms

Famous Super Metro Conductor Gerald Mwangi Njoroge widely known as ‘makanga bae’ has succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

His death was announced by digital content creator and lifestyle influencer Murugi Munyi who happens to be makanga bae’s cousin.

Murugi took her instastories on Friday, October 11, 2024, to mourn his untimely death.

“Rest in peace cuz, you had so much time left to live. we will miss you. Makanga bae till the end,” she posted.

“He was so passionate about his work, such a testament to whatever work you are involved in be excellent at it. Stand out, Rip Gero.”

Blood appeal

His death comes after Super Metro Sacco made an urgent appeal for blood donations on Thursday, October 10, 2024, to help save his life.

“Urgent blood donation appeal.Name Gerald Njoroge Mwangi(mwash) Hospital Kenyatta National Hospital Blood group B+(positive) Contact Person Harmony No.0723071594. Quickest recovery Mwas,” Super Metro management appealed.

“Mwas got involved in an accident in the line of duty and he urgently needs us pals. Kindly let’s support him. Thank you and be blessed.”

Makanga Bae was admitted to KNH after he was involved in a road accident that led to one of his legs being amputated, the accident occurred at the ABC roundabout Waiyaki Way.

Limelight

Makanga Bae became an internet sensation for his aura and being the cleanest conductor, his charismatic nature attracted both genders making him a beloved conductor among commuters.

He was celebrated for his professionalism and charm in an industry often criticised for its chaotic nature and over time, he earned respect not only from passengers but also from within the matatu industry itself.

Conductor career

Speaking during an interview with a popular news website, Makanga Bae said that his journey has not been without challenges.

He went on to narrate that he is a degree holder who initially faced skepticism from his family regarding his choice of profession adding that his mother was surprised after learning that he wanted to work in the matatu industry.

“my mum was surprised that I wanted to work as a bus conductor, she even sat down in surprise,” he said.
