The family of infamous Leeds United hooligan Aaron Cawley – who fell in spectacular fashion while celebrating his team’s goal at Chelsea – say he is on the mend.

Aaron Cawley is said to have broken his pelvis, several ribs and a fractured vertebra after the spectacular fall that sent him to hospital on Wednesday evening.

Hooligan Cawley, 33, still lives with his mother at her home in Cheltenham but is currently recovering in hospital.

Today his mother Susan Cawley said: ‘He is doing very well, thank you.’

Mrs Cawley said: ‘I’m not responding. If you don’t leave the premises, I will call the police.’

Cawley attended the FA Cup fifth round cup tie between Chelsea and Leeds and sat in the top stand of Shed End before dropping into the bottom tier.

There was a wild celebration as the Championship visitors opened the scoring and Cawley fell into the fans below before medics arrived on the scene.

Mail Sport later revealed that Cawley was a notorious football criminal who had previously been jailed for four months and banned from playing for six years after punching former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland in 2012.

The ban imposed on him was lifted in 2012 after he successfully appealed, but Cawley is still banned from attending Leeds matches.

Leeds could not confirm the name of the supporter who fell due to patient confidentiality.

Despite the restriction imposed by the club, it is not the first time Cawley has been spotted at a Leeds match after he was previously caught on camera hugging defender Pontus Jansson after scoring the equalizer against Norwich.

He had also previously been banned from football for three years at the age of 16 due to violence.

Wednesday’s match at Stamford Bridge was not stopped at the time of Cawley’s fall, but concerned fans watched before he was removed from the stadium and taken to a nearby hospital.

Chelsea went on to win the draw and knock Leeds out of the cup when Conor Gallagher scored in the 90th minute.
