Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has issued a statement set the record straight after a notice claiming that he has been suspended from office surfaced.

In his statement shared via his official X page, Mutua flagged the notice as fake asserting that the said poster should be treated with caution.

The notice had claimed that Mutua had been suspended and therefore prohibited from conducting business on behalf of MCSK.

“This is to inform the general public, stakeholders and our esteemed members that Dr Ezekiel Mutua (whose photo appears above), has been suspended and is not allowed to conduct business on behalf of Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).

“MCSK shall not therefore be liable for any contractual obligations that arise from engaging with the said person. By order of the board,” the flagged notice read.

MCSK National Chairperson Lazarus Muli also flagged the notice and terming it as insidious propaganda aimed at tarnishing Mutua’s reputation.

He additionally stated that the notice was being circulated by people with ill motives in the industry as they are unhappy with Mutua’s strides in the industry.

“My attention has been brought to some insidious propaganda being peddled on social media concerning MCSK leadership and in particular our CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, MBS. The material being circulated by people with ill motives is pure propaganda by cartels in the industry who are unhappy with the great work Dr. Mutua is doing for MCSK and the music industry in general,” he said via Facebook.

The MCSK chairperson further assured Kenyans that appropriate action is being taken against the authors of the poster to ensure they face the law for defamation and spreading falsehoods.

“Bringing change in an industry that has for far too long been held hostage by cartels at the expense of the artists is bound to attract enemies but we are fully behind the CEO and his team at MCSK as they transform the industry.

“Appropriate action is being taken against the authors of the malicious documents to ensure that they face the law for defamation and spreading falsehoods,” he said.

He, at the same time, assured Dr Mutua of full support from the MCSK to ensure that he delivers on his mandated duties.

“In the meantime, our members and stakeholders can rest assured that Dr. Mutua is in charge and the MCSK leadership is fully behind him.

“This is therefore to request Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) members and stakeholders to dismiss the propaganda being peddled with the contempt it deserves,” he added.
