Social media giants Facebook and Instagram fully restored their services after a global outage that lasted over two hours. The platforms experienced a significant disruption that left users worldwide unable to access their accounts.
Yesterday around 10pm, multiple users reported on Twitter that they were logged out of Facebook and Instagram and could not log back in. The outage was widespread, impacting a large number of users and causing a significant stir on the internet.
During the height of the disruption, over 550,000 Facebook users and 92,000 Instagram users encountered issues, according to the website Downdetector.com. The site tracks technology failures and outages by collating status reports from a range of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
Following the resolution of the incident, Meta Platforms spokesperson Andy Stone took to Twitter to announce the problem was sorted.
“We’ve resolved the issues.”
The brief statement did not provide additional details about the cause of the outage or the measures taken to resolve it.
In response to the event, a cybersecurity advisor at the White House stated that the incident was being investigated and that no malicious activities had been detected in cyberspace about the outage, reported Sanook.
Meta, the parent company of the affected platforms, has reported that it has approximately 3.19 billion users of its suite of social media applications, which also includes WhatsApp and Threads.
In related news, a songwriter known as Pratchaya Chitra, nicknamed Beer, found himself at the receiving end of a bullying incident after simply liking a video clip of his song being covered by a woman. The woman, feeling affronted, launched into a tirade against Beer, questioning his motives and mocking his appearance.
It all began when Beer showed appreciation for the cover of his song, which he found on Facebook, by pressing the ‘love’ reaction emoji. The woman then messaged Beer, challenging his interaction.
“Why did you press the heart? Do you like me?”
