You can argue that the Hollywood nepo baby phenomenon comes with a ton of perks for child stars with famous parents. However, filming sex scenes in front of your father is something people likely don’t consider as an uncomfortable con of the work arrangement. Fortunately for Ethan Hawke and his daughter Maya Hawke, this didn’t seem to be an issue while filming their upcoming indie biographical drama Wildcat, as the father-daughter duo told Variety.

We were so comfortable with it,” Ethan said, adding that he “couldn’t care less.”

Instead, Ethan highlighted that they ” needed to take care of Rafael [Casal] and Cooper [Hoffman],” Maya’s two scene partners.

“I think it was weird for them,” he quipped.

“We made sure to have an intimacy coordinator on set for them,” Maya chimed in. “So that they felt safe and comfortable and not like they were being spied on …”

“… by some creepy dad,” Ethan interjected.

According to Insider, Maya stars in the film as writer Flannery O’Connor, while also taking on six different roles embodied in O’Connor’s short stories. While Ethan revealed that he is “not embarrassed” about being a “nepo dad,” Maya admitted that she “had moments of insecurity about it while [they] were shooting the movie.”

“But the internet doesn’t have a lot of nuances,” she said. “My dad has been a massive teacher for me, and we want to work together. We like being with each other.”

Nonetheless, Maya still jokingly deemed her family as the “boring, Indie Kardashians.”

Ethan clarified that it is “totally fair” for others to criticize their collaborations.

“You have to let people have their opinion,” he said. “You just have to try to do a good job when you’re onstage.”

Wildcat does not yet have an official theatrical release date.
