Erik ten Hag has lashed out at Manchester United’s decision not to award a penalty in Sunday’s draw against Tottenham, claiming his team has been the victim of injustice this season.
Referee John Brooks took no action against Destiny Udogie when he appeared to pull Alejandro Garnacho back in the first half at Old Trafford, and VAR also failed to intervene.
Ten Hag is still saddened by an incident during United’s defeat at Spurs in August, when Christian Romero handled Garnacho’s shot but escaped unpunished.
When asked if he was surprised that Udogie’s challenge did not go to VAR, Ten Hag replied: ‘Yes. What can you do? But I’m used to it, it’s been like that all season. There was something similar at Spurs, a clear handball from Romero and I can name a number of others.
“At some point in the season I think it will come down to our side. Let’s hope so.’

United led twice through Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford, but were put behind by goals from Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentacur.
Ten Hag was dissatisfied with Richarlison’s header from a corner as he felt his players should have been braver in defending Pedro Porro’s throw as they were 2–2 in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first match at Old Trafford since its £1.3 billion investment was confirmed.
Ten Hag added: ‘He (Ratcliffe) will have seen a team fighting for each other and trying to win. You have seen great goals from our side, but what he would also have noticed is that we should have been man (more masculine) when we had to defend corner kicks.
‘I think we scored two great goals and conceded two very soft goals. I’ve seen some good spells, two goals, but also some other chances. You’re kind of disappointed when you don’t get the result.”

Scott McTominay had a golden opportunity to score the winner in extra time, but headed over as United remained eight points behind Spurs in the race for the top four.
“I think it was a great ball from Garnacho and Scott has the right smell to get there,” said Ten Hag. ‘Normally he scores 10 out of 10 goals like that.’
