England’s WAGs ‘to spend £100,000 on private bodyguards’ for Euro 2024 in Germany amid fears of ‘new level’ of terror threat

  • England has been declared the slight favorite at this year’s European Championship

England’s WAGs will spend an eye-watering sum on private bodyguards during this summer’s Euros, it was claimed last night.

The footballers’ partners are said to be spending £100,000 on private bodyguards for this year’s tournament in Germany.

It comes after German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser issued a stark warning about the threat terrorists pose to her country.

Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), an offshoot of ISIS, last week claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on the Crocus City Hall entertainment complex in the Russian capital, which massacred nearly 140 people and injured hundreds.

Ms Fraser said the incident had “raised the dangers to a new level” and confirmed that Germany will be on high alert for the major international event, with temporary border controls being introduced “to prevent potential perpetrators of violence from entering the country”.

The group of WAGs, led by women Fern Maguire and Megan Pickford, plans to share the costs, according to The sun.

The partners, including Jack Grealish’s girlfriend Sasha Attwood and Buyako Saka’s partner Tolami Benson, are said to be looking to hire ex-military specialists in place of the FA’s security team.

England are the slight favorites for this summer’s European Championship, ahead of World Cup runners-up France.

A source told the newspaper: ‘They will operate at a discreet distance so that the group does not attract too much attention.

‘It means they can enjoy more freedom and feel safer at the same time.’

A UK Government spokesperson said: ‘Football fans across the country will be looking forward to a summer of football.

‘We are working with the German police to support a safe and hassle-free tournament.

‘A British police delegation will be sent to Germany during the event and we will also provide support and advice on how to deal with fans from Britain.’

The FA has been contacted for comment.
