Georgia Stanway said she learned a crucial lesson during this camp in England: always pack your football boots in your carry-on luggage.

Stanway flew from Germany, where she plays her club football at Bayern Munich, to the Lionesses Camp in Marbella, but unfortunately her suitcase did not come with her.

Stanway, who had to borrow a pair of shoes for her first two days of training, told the story during her pre-match press conference with Sarina Wiegman, who was also hearing the story for the first time – leading to an amusing conversation between the pair.

Stanway: I’m currently spending all my time looking for my suitcase because it didn’t show up when I landed here on Monday. Right now I’m just trying to figure out where it is.

Wiegman: Don’t have your football gear?

Stanway: You don’t know that story!

Wiegman: If you need some stuff from me, that’s fine…

Stanway: We had a little drama because it was left in Germany and I had nothing. But an U23 player, Freya (Gregory), I was able to wear her shoes for the first two days.

Wiegman: Gasps

Stanway: And then we sent Maria to the store last night. But hopefully my suitcase will show up in the next few days. The biggest lesson I learned is that you should pack your boots in your carry-on.

Meanwhile, Wiegman has promised to rotate her squad for England’s friendlies against Austria and Italy and it is expected the manager will field two different starting XIs for each match.

The Lionesses are preparing for the Euro 2025 qualifiers starting in April, but Wiegman has rarely had the chance to experiment due to the constant cycle of tournament football.

If Wiegman does indeed field a completely different starting eleven in the second match, against Italy, it would be the first time she has done so during her term of office.
