Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling tease their ‘Barbenheimer’ rivalry at Oscars 2024 before presenting a tribute to stunt performers

Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling delivered one of the most hilarious moments of the 2024 Oscars as they teased their rivalry in the summer films “Barbenheimer.”

Blunt, 41, and Gosling, 43, took to the Oscar stage at the Dolby Theater to pay tribute to stunt performers, many of whom claim they deserve their own Oscar.

Before presenting the tribute, however, they joked about their films Barbie and Oppenheimer and the summer movie rivalry they created, known as “Barbenheimer.”

They both took the stage as Gosling said, “Oh. Hello, Emily,” although Blunt noted, “Oh, that was a bit of an icy hello.”

Gosling said: ‘Not at all. No, I’m just happy that we can finally put this rivalry between the Barbenheimers behind us.’

Blunt added: “That’s right. That’s right. Here are Ken and Kitty. I’ll just leave all that food in the dust, guys, right?’

Although she fired the first jab at Gosling, saying, “Exactly. And the way this awards season has gone, it hasn’t been much of a rivalry, so… let it go.”

Gosling shot back, “Oh. It’s true. You guys are doing really well, you know? Congratulations,” referring to the many Best Picture awards Oppenheimer has won this awards season.

He added, “But you know, I think I kind of figured out why it’s called ‘Barbenheimer’ and they didn’t call it ‘Oppenarbie.’ Well, I think you’re at the end of the line there because you’ve been riding on Barbie’s coattails all summer.”

Oscar-goers burst into laughter when they showed a photo of Barbie star/producer Margot Robbie smiling.

Blunt added, “Thanks for explaining that to me, okay, sir. ‘I have to paint my abs to get nominated.’ You don’t see Robert Downey doing that,” showing Downey and his wife Susan laughing.

Gosling added: “You’re kidding me. This is crazy, Emily. This has to stop. We have to crush this! We are here to celebrate the stunt community.”

Blunt added: “Enormously, yes,” as Gosling said: “They’ve been such a crucial part of our industry since the dawn of cinema.”

Blunt continued, “It’s true. They are truly the unsung heroes who risk their lives and limbs for the cinema. Play.’

After the video package, Gosling concluded: To the stunt performers and stunt coordinators who help make movie magic, we salute you.”
